Karl’s journey into horticulture started decades ago, rooted in a genuine passion for the outdoors and the natural environment. With National Diplomas in Horticulture and Arboriculture, plus a National Certificate in Soft Landscape Design, Karl has built his career from the ground up, literally.

He’s worked with trees and landscapes on both sides of the world, including time in the USA studying plant biology in Philadelphia, and running his own garden and arborist business in the UK for 8 years. After relocating to New Zealand in 2003, Karl continued to grow (in more ways than one), spending 7 years as a full-time arborist, before taking a detour into public service with the New Zealand Police, where he served with distinction for 11 years.

Eventually, the pull of the soil proved too strong. Karl returned to his roots as the Head Gardener at a retirement village in Papamoa, where he spent 3 years bringing life and care to the gardens of local residents.

Now, together with his wife Kristal – who brings her own background in law, business, and community – they’ve created Papamoa Garden Care, a local family owned business committed to honest, skilled, and reliable garden services for Papamoa, Mount Maunganui and Tauranga.

Whether it’s hedge trimming, pruning, planting, lawn mowing or just keeping things neat, Karl brings over 20 years of experience and a deep respect for the green spaces we all call home.
